Imatge del riu Congost al seu pas per la Garriga

During the months of September and December 2025, the restoration of 2.5 hectares of fluvial habitat in the Congost in La Garriga was carried out, specifically in the southern area of Les Roques.

The action, promoted by the RIVUS Foundation within the framework of the CoMBe Habitats project, has allowed to improve the state of conservation of the fluvial habitats, strengthen the native riparian forest, promote ecological connectivity and generate new refuge spaces for fauna.

The work has combined actions to control invasive exotic species, reduce the fragmentation of the riparian forest and plant native species. A significant manual removal of waste has also been carried out to condition the area.

To control the reed, one of the invasive species, selective clearing and removal of rhizomes have been applied, with the aim of limiting its regrowth. Other invasive species have also been eliminated.

On the other hand, to promote the recovery of the riverside forest, more than 500 specimens of the most representative species of these river environments have been planted, such as alder, poplar and small-leaved ash.

As part of the action, a specific box has been installed for the water bat, a species closely linked to river courses and considered a bioindicator of the quality of these ecosystems.

This is a pioneering experience in Catalonia. This action has also had the collaboration of students from the Els Pinetons de la Garriga school, who have been responsible for painting and decorating them.

The action, with a budget of 42,600 euros, has been promoted by the RIVUS Foundation, financed by the Generalitat de Catalunya through the Natural Heritage Fund, with the support of the Besòs Tordera Consortium, and executed by Aprèn Serveis Ambientals SL, with construction management by SERPA Enginyeria i Consultoria Ambiental SL.
