The pioneering establishment of contemporary thermal spas in the Garriga

The Balneari Blancafort was born in 1840, when Joan Blancafort had four bathtubs lined with Valencia tiles installed in his modest hostel, which received thermal water through a conduit on Carrer Banys.

From there, the business and its facilities did nothing but grow and modernize, becoming the leading thermal business in the Garriga. Its central building, with U-shaped galleries, did not take its definitive form until 1922, when the Blancafort Spa was already the centerpiece of the bourgeois scene in the village and the surrounding area.

People such as Jaume Balmes, Jacint Verdaguer, Enric Prat de la Riba, Narcisa Freixas, Eugeni d'Ors, Puig i Cadafalch, Francesc Cambó or General Primo de Rivera, among many others, passed through its facilities.

During the Civil War, the Blancafort Spa served as a military hospital. The post-conflict reconstruction tasks were complex, but it once again became a landmark establishment and housed some of the most prominent figures of the new regime. At the beginning of the 21st century, it underwent, again, an important reform, with the expansion of its facilities, until obtaining its current appearance.

Currently, the Hotel Balneari Blancafort is a 4-star Hotel, website: http://hotelblancafort.com
