This week, work began to renovate the water network on Anselm Clavé, Figueral and Carretera de l’Ametlla streets.
The City Council has started this week the renovation work on the water distribution and demand regulation network. The project focuses on a key area of the urban core and foresees the execution of the works in different phases.
The intervention will mainly affect Anselm Clavé, Figueral and Carretera de l’Ametlla streets, where the old pipes will be replaced with ductile iron, thus eliminating water losses and breakdowns that often caused unexpected cuts and inconvenience to residents.
On the other hand, regulating valves will be installed on Joan Brossa and Avinguda dels Tremolencs streets.
Phased implementation
With the aim of minimizing the impact on daily life, commerce and mobility, a progressive work plan has been designed, divided into three main phases:
Phase 1 – Carretera de l’Ametlla (week of April 20): It will begin with the service bays and excavation. To facilitate maneuvers, parking spaces will be reserved in the area of Ctra. Ametlla with Carrer Ceràmica, duly signposted 48 hours in advance.
Phase 2 – Carrer Figueral: It will begin approximately one week after the first phase. To maintain the fluidity of traffic, parking will be eliminated progressively to always leave a free lane of traffic while work is being carried out.
Phase 3 – Carrer Anselm Clavé: Due to its size, this street will be divided into three different actions. In the section between Carrer de l'Ametlla and Carrer de Rosselló, traffic and parking will be temporarily prohibited, while in the section up to Carrer de Vinyals, the impacts will be mainly limited to the prohibition of parking. It will begin once phase 2 is completed.
Shared financing
This action is financed by a €300,000 subsidy from the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), intended for the renovation and digitalization of networks in decline, and a complementary contribution from the Barcelona Provincial Council through its support programs for the improvement of the water distribution network.
This aid allows the municipality to modernize its water system without having to assume the high cost of the work alone, which amounts to €421,916.64.
