Between July 1936 and 1952, the rebel side first and the Franco dictatorship later devoted much effort to an anti-partisan war, which sought to eliminate the armed Republican resistance. An irregular conflict that was the result of the struggle for control of physical space, the coup repression and the flight to the mountains of thousands of Republicans who had to escape violent and vengeful policies of violence. In this talk, historian Arnau Fernández Pasalodos, from the University of Granada, will show that Franco himself, in 1944, affirmed that the war had not ended in April 1939. We will also verify the role played by the Civil Guard in this context of anti-partisan war, analyzing the strategies and policies of violence that they applied to the guerrillas, the civilian population and the natural environment.
During the talk, it will be possible to purchase the speaker's book "Hasta su total exterminio", published in 2024.
